Twitter Summary
This week on twitter taught me more about what my fellow peers are interested in and what they will be centering their research around. It is interesting to see the diversity of posts and animals in my feed. I also found many organizations centered around wolf research to help me better understand them. For instance, I started to follow the Endangered Wolf Center as they focus their content on conservation methods to protect wolves. This account will educate me on conservation methods that I could use on my scicomm article. I also followed WOLF Sanctuary as they will expose me to information on how best improve the lives of wolves and protect them from hunters. For my twitter thread, I posted about an article explaining how the presence of wolves has brought balance to an ecosystem in Yellowstone. This article also explained how conservation laws must benefit the animal and the surrounding humans in order to favor both sides. The most interesting thing I learned on Twitter this week was about how common it is to find coyotes in urban areas. I responded to Derek Liu's post about how coyotes have been coexisting with humans in recent history. I found it interesting because we also read a scicomm article about this topic last week so I was able to make connections between the two articles.
Blog Responses
The three students' blogs that I responded to were Tiffany Nguyen, Aanchal Patel, and Juliana Granillo. My best response was to Tiffany as I commented, "Hey! I also noticed that we have read work from Marzluff so he was definitely a researcher that stood out to me. I find it fascinating how intelligent birds are despite their size!" I feel like this comment highlighted how we can connect readings and videos to researchers from other works. This is important because we can connect this information to show more information on the researcher. I was able learn a lot about the connections in the video through Tiffany's blog. Overall, responding to blog posts allows me to learn more about the insights of students as it is longer and more detailed than short tweets. I look forward to responding to more blogs in the future.
Hey! The Endangered Wolf Center looks really cool; I gave them a follow too! I also found the Coyotes' ability to flourish in urban areas interesting!
