Part One
Writing 60 has taught me many valuable lessons that I will not forget and apply to the future. There were many instances of transformative learning from this course as it was well-structured by Professor Haas to ensure that us students will takeaway important lessons from the course. Here are some examples.
Research Transformation
There was a lot of important readings from research studies that I did throughout the course. Building up to the advocacy project, I learned about many problems that wolves faced, specifically their conflict with humans. Though my research was centered around wolves, I have come to realize that most animals face problems with human activities. Due to this, I will make sure that I continue to respect animals and their territories. Many of them were on this planet long before us so it is important that we do not destroy their homes more than we already have. I will not forget how important animals are to the environment and will always respect them.
Course Objective Transformation
Prior to this course, I have never used Twitter. I have always been quite indifferent towards it but this course has changed that opinion. Twitter has proven to me to be a very useful tool to learn about specific topics as well as teach others about a topic. I used it to educate my peers on human-wolf conflicts and also followed many researchers and organizations that taught me more about wolves. I will continue to use Twitter for career-orientated and personal use as I believe it will be a very valuable tool to have.
Part two
I also had some areas where I struggled on throughout the course. Here are two:
Research Improvement
One thing I struggled with especially during the beginning of the course is how to find the right articles. I had a hard time conducting valuable research and I would often skip articles if they were too long because I did not want to read all of it. However, I started too improve and gain interest in articles as the course progressed. In the future, I will make sure to judge the articles based off the title and abstract compared to just the length. This will make me a better researcher.
Sentence Improvement
The Connect practice sessions taught me that I struggle with properly forming sentences and using the right words. With the last session I did, I found out that I use a lot of unnecessary filler words in my sentences. I need to improve this by not writing as fast and carefully review my sentences after I write them to remove fillers. This will make my writings more interesting and engaging for the audience.
